Make it a commitment to introduce slowness into your life whenever and wherever possible. Applying it to a wardrobe doesn’t need to be challenging. This might be stating the obvious, but do take it slow 😉 The process is meant to be organic and satisfying. Here are some useful tips for an easy transition.
- START WITH A SPRING CLEANING
Every now and again, every wardrobe needs to be looked through and the wearability of each piece of clothing needs to be reassessed. If you haven’t worn something for a year, chances are you are never going to wear it again. Let it go! Leave only the pieces that make you smile. You may end up with just a few of them, but it will be clothing that really matters to you.
- GET CREATIVE
Every piece of clothing you own probably has dozens of undiscovered ways of wearing it. You would be surprised with how many different looks you can squeeze out of one item of clothing. Challenge yourself with new ways of wearing something old. As far as you know, it can turn out to be great fun.
- DEVELOP YOUR OWN STYLE
Find out who you are and wear it with pride. Never worry about the latest trends – they’re there to fuel the fashion industry. Choose clothes that can be the expression of who you are. Be yourself – that’s always in vogue! When you are yourself, you end up looking good in just about anything.
- CHOOSE QUALITY OVER QUANTITY
This borders on stating the obvious, but we have all fallen prey to thinking that more is better one time or another, especially when the price happened to be particularly enticing. But quality has always trumped quantity, giving you a feeling of timeless beauty every time you wear clothes that have it in spades.
- SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE AND FAIR TRADE BRANDS
We are now well aware of the harsh truths hidden behind fast fashion. At the same time, we’re constantly introduced to new sustainable ways of manufacturing clothing, which are promoting fair trade and supporting hand-made quality garments. Educate yourself. Awareness of certain facts will undoubtedly make you think twice before buying another piece of clothing.
The beauty of it all lies in the slowness, so do it at your own pace. Sip on herbal teas in between and walk barefoot in the wilderness whenever possible.
